2024 Staff Retreat: Building Our Legacy
Annual Staff Retreat Celebrates Core Values
Habitat SLO County staff came together Tuesday Jan 30 for a day of training, education, and inspiration at our annual staff in-service retreat. Our team engaged with each other in new, meaningful ways, and focused on establishing a “word of the year” to focus our work in 2024.
We discussed the organization’s core values: Opportunity, Connection, Intention, and Pride. We focused on our familiar call to action, “Build with us!” and the many ways we can invite these core values into our daily work by extending this invitation for meaningful collaboration to every partner with whom we engage.
The word “legacy” resonated strongly with many of our staff who agreed Habitat SLO County is in a strong position to develop our legacy as an organization serving this community this year.
Building our Legacy in SLO County
In 2024 we’ll be moving nine families into homes they built with their own hands–what an amazing legacy for these families to celebrate! By becoming homeowners, they will have more stability that allows them to reliably invest in other valuable areas such as medical needs or education. This increases generational wealth and benefits our community exponentially, creating a legacy of strength, and stability, and self-reliance in San Luis Obispo.
This year we’ll also celebrate Build With Us, an event benefiting Habitat SLO County. At this event we’ll peek back on what we have accomplished since we were founded in 1997, but-perhaps more importantly-we’ll look ahead to the future of what we can build together. With your support, our work will build in new ways that create a lasting impact in this community.
We will continue recruiting to the Ground Breakers Club in 2024. Through this club, our most devoted supporters can cement their legacy by committing to reliable monthly gifts to support our work. Ground Breakers create a legacy of giving in support of affordable housing.
This and so much more is in store for this organization in 2024. We are looking forward to developing our understanding of our individual legacies as staff members, and will be sharing those perspectives with you through Staff and Board spotlights throughout the year.
