At Habitat SLO County we believe strong women build strong communities. Our Women Build initiative brings people together to make a difference in San Luis Obispo County. We offer building and volunteer opportunities, networking events, and mentorship that celebrates the pride that comes with being a woman in this field.
We celebrate Women Build every March, with special events held throughout the year.

When did Women Build begin?
Habitat SLO County re-introduced it’s Women Build initiative to SLO County in autumn 2023 with a Playhouse Build project.
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) and affiliates all over the world host Women Build events. Learn more about HFHI and the history of the Women Build initiative.
Why does Women Build matter?
By hosting Women Build events, Habitat SLO County is empowering women to take an active role in the work of building homes. We provide opportunities for participants to learn from each other, hear from experienced women in the field, and we offer participants chance to engage with other like-minded supporters.
Are other genders allowed to attend Women Build events?
Certainly! Our Women Build initiative aims to celebrate and empower women in the field. Women Build events are open to all participants.
What’s different about a Women Build project, compared to your other projects?
Not much–in a good way! Our focus on Women Build projects is bringing women together to make a difference in our community. Women Build is a theme to celebrate inclusion of women in the work of building homes and the pride and strength that women bring to the our community.
What networking opportunities do you offer?
We are committed to providing networking and mentorship opportunities for local women and girls who are interested in this work. Our annual Women Build networking event allows Habitat SLO County board members, staff, and supporters to connect with others and build a strong network of women in the filed. Plus, every Women Build construction project provides hands-on experience and networking opportunities as volunteers work alongside other like-minded supporters. What types of hands-on projects does Women Build offer?
We may offer Build Day opportunities on New Construction projects, Playhouse Build, Home Preservation and Neighborhood Revitalization projects. Some events may be sponsored by Habitat SLO County, or a third-party may sponsor an event. To learn more about partnering with us to sponsor your own Women Build event, contact our Development Team.
What if I have no experience or connections in building, but I’m interested?
Every Habitat SLO County volunteer opportunity is designed to accommodate a variety of skill levels and interests. We will always provide training, materials, and resources to ensure all volunteers and participants have a safe and meaningful experience when working with us. Attend a Women Build event and you’ll build a relationship that forms the connection you’re looking for!
How can I support Women Build?
